Growing up in a Western culture I find that knowledge of Chakras is limited to individuals from the same demographic as myself. Unless you have researched the subject yourself. to gain knowledge on the subject. That is why I have decided to complete a post on my blog about Chakras to share with all of you.

Depending on the tradition you research some describe different numbers of Chakras from seven and up. For this discussion I will be discussing the seven main chakras which you can see in the picture on the right. The Third Eye Charka is also known as the Brow Chakra. Every person and animal have Chakras that travel in a vertical line down the centre of the body. As well there are minor Chakras located in our feet and hands as well. Every Chakra has a specific location in the body and the energy flows in the direction from the root Chakra to the crown Chakra from our feet to above our head. If you think of the body as a tree, water (or energy) travels from the roots (your feet) up to the leaves (your head). If a Chakra is blocked then energy becomes stagnant, and your energy (or Qi) will be unable to flow freely which can lead to physical, emotional and spiritual issues. When we are born our Chakras are clear and energy flows freely. However in life there are stressors and life experiences that can cause blockages. Our energy and Chakras are always changing. Chakras are energy centres or vortexes that record data of experiences, beliefs and emotions we experience that can either help to clear or block the Chakras. Chakras represent various parts of the physical body, our emotions, our perceptions and how we project ourselves in our lives. Understanding the chakra system is a great tool through which we can gain deeper insight into ourselves and make adjustments in our lives to have balance and harmony.

Reiki assists to identify which Chakras have blockages so that the receiver of Reiki can gain deeper insight into themselves and as a result reflect on life and how they project themselves and participate in the path of their own lives. As a result of identifying Chakras that need clearing the individual can identify general areas of the body associated with the specific Chakra and draw their attention to any physical concerns or ailments that may exist. Each Chakra regulates the organs and systems in the area of the body it is near such as the brow Chakra being associated with headaches and migraines if there are blockages at that Chakra. Every Chakra has identifiable emotional imbalances that are associated with that location. For example the throat chakra is associated with expression so if you have a blockage at your throat Chakra you may have issues with self expression, or honesty.

There also is a specific colour, sound, vibration and other properties associated with each Chakra. There are many complementary alternative therapies such as sound and colour therapy, aromatherapy, yoga, meditation, and acupuncture which can use Chakras and meridians in their practices as well.

If you are interested in further information related to each individual Chakra please refer to the section in this website on, "What are Chakras." As well there are many other websites with an abundance of knowledge and information that you may look into as well. An interesting book that discusses Chakras is, "Anatomy of the Spirit" by Caroline Myss, PH.D. This book is quite thorough and provides a more in depth explanation of the Chakra system.
